Project Let’s Read takes place at a “need improvement, “public school in Brooklyn, NY. Many of the children in this school are special needs children and many more comes from foster homes. We want the children to know that we care about them and that they are loved. We will read to all children in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade and “put a book,” in each child’s hands.

Change 1 Child book club
We currently have 350 children in our book Club. These children will be reading for fun for a total of 720 minutes or 12 hours over a 2 months period. We encourage the children to read books that they received from us,books from the library, newspaper and children's magazine. We will reward the children that reach this goal and those that show tremendous improvements in their reading scores during the school year. Please help to Change 1 Child by supporting our reading club.

February 17, 2009 at 4:56 PMI truly enjoyed reading two books to a wonderful first grade class. The children were eager to listen to “Beautiful” and responded when I asked each child what or who was beautiful to them. One child asked me what was beautiful for me, and I replied that having the opportunity to see their smiling faces was true beauty.
The children were familiar with the second book and we decided that to read it together. They were excited to participate in this unique experience. The children were happy to receive new books too!

February 13, 2009 at 9:42 AMThis was my first reading experience at this school where I read to the kindergarten of classroom 126.
The children were curious and well behaved. Unfortunately one of the boys had misbehaved before I got there, and therefor was not allowed to sit with the other children for story time.
The students followed along as I read “Ella the Elegant Elephant” and they asked questions like, “How come these elephants can talk?”
They felt sorry for Ella–who was picked on by the other elephant students–for being the new girl and because she looked different then them with her big red hat that she wore. A lot of hands went up during and after I finished the story with great questions.
The boys and girls were all happy to receive their new books and they were confused to be getting them to take come, with out ever having to give them back. It was a true pleasure to be putting these books in their hands and I look forward to seeing the kids again next month!
