Change 1 Child book club

We currently have 350 children in our book Club. These children will be reading for fun for a total of 720 minutes or 12 hours over a 2 months period. We encourage the children to read books that they received from us,books from the library, newspaper and children's magazine. We will reward the children that reach this goal and those that show tremendous improvements in their reading scores during the school year. Please help to Change 1 Child by supporting our reading club.

March Hope Project

On March 9, 2009, we returned to our focused school in Brooklyn, NY to conduct our Hope Project. This month we read “My Mama had a Dancing Heart,” by Libba Moore Gray. This is a story of a mother and daughter who enjoyed ballet dancing and found something in every season that reflected ballet dancing. After reading, we once again had a discussion with the class and distributed books to each child.

Today we returned to our focus school. I can’t express how nice it is to have each child smile and wave in excitement when you walk into their classroom to hear you read.
The students had recently read this story and were a little distracted (I think it also had a lot to do with their teacher being absent and having a substitute).
We had a great discussion afterwards, almost every one of the students participated and as usual, they were thrilled to have their new books.
It was a success :)
